Located approximately halfway between Richfield and Albemarle, New London was settled in the 1830s under the name Bilesville (so named for the Biles family). The name was changed to New London in the 1850s when the area's first gold mine was purchased by an English mining company. Today, New London is a small town with charming homes, and serves as one of the northern access points to Morrow Mountain State Park.
